Mobile load solutions for your workshop

Modern workshops require flexible solutions for load handling. The mobile workshop crane (known as “mobilecrane” in the KA Cranes product range) offers just that: a powerful lifting tool without fixed foundations that can be used anywhere in your workshop. As an auxiliary crane for production, assembly and tool changes, our mobilecrane creates free crane capacity everywhere – with a flexibility that conventional systems cannot offer.

Originally developed in the 1980s, our workshop cranes have continuously evolved and adapted to changing customer needs. The result? A sophisticated system with internal carriage guidance that is extremely smooth-running and resistant to workshop dirt.

How to find the right workshop crane for your needs

What loads need to be moved?

Choosing the right load capacity is crucial for the efficient use of your workshop crane. Our various models cover a wide range of applications:

  • Light loads (100-250 kg): Ideal for smaller tools, components and lighter units in garages and assembly technology.
  • Medium loads (250-500 kg): Perfect for handling heavier tools, machine parts and typical components in mechanical engineering.
  • Heavy loads (500-1000 kg): For demanding applications in heavy industry where larger components need to be moved.

Tip: Always plan with reserves for the load capacity. Choose a workshop crane that can carry at least 10-15% more than your heaviest regular load.

Which area of work should be covered?

The right reach and the right swivel range ensure that you can reach all the important work areas in your workshop:

  • Projection: Depending on the model, we offer projections from 1750 mm to 4715 mm. The maximum radius directly influences the possible load capacity.
  • Swivel range: From WK I with 270° to WK III with a full 360° swivel range – choose the model that meets your space requirements.
  • Working height: The overall height can be flexibly adapted to your individual requirements in 100 mm increments (from 2250 mm to 4500 mm).

What mobility is required?

A key advantage of our workshop cranes is their unique mobility. Various options are available to you depending on the frequency of the relocation:

  • Without chassis: Transport with a forklift truck or overhead crane for occasional relocation.
  • Mechanical chassis: With detachable drawbar for easy and cost-effective mobility.
  • Hydraulic chassis: For frequent relocation and particularly convenient maneuvering, even in confined workshop areas.

The advantages of our workshop crane at a glance

No foundation work necessary

In contrast to permanently anchored column-mounted slewing jib cranes, the mobile workshop crane does not require any complex foundation work. Ideal for underfloor heating, rental properties or when no intervention in the hall statics is possible.

Maximum flexibility for changing requirements

Away from rigid production layouts – the mobile workshop crane adapts to your needs. The crane can simply move with you in the event of layout changes or changing locations without the need for new investments.

Internal carriage guide

Thanks to the sophisticated design with an internally guided carriage, our workshop cranes are extremely smooth-running and resistant to dirt – a decisive advantage over conventional external girder guidance.

Further advantages at a glance:

  • Ready for operation immediately after delivery – no waiting times
  • Proven in practice since the 1980s and continuously improved
  • Customizable load handling attachments for your specific applications
  • Uncomplicated operation without special qualifications
  • Extremely smooth-running thanks to ball bearing technology
  • Supplied pre-wired and ready for connection
  • Low maintenance due to robust construction
  • Fast delivery compared to fixed variants

Frequently asked questions about the workshop crane

What distinguishes a mobilecrane from other crane solutions?

Mobile cranes/traveling cranes offer flexible movement/positioning and therefore cover much larger areas of application. The mobilecrane itself is a column-mounted slewing jib crane, but without a fixed connection to the ground/hall/building.

It therefore fulfills the requirements of a column-mounted slewing jib crane combined with the advantage of location-independence without static influence (no anchor connection/hall statics). Only the floor load capacity must be taken into account.

Another advantage: flexible relocation means that one crane can cover several applications – this ensures a faster return on investment (ROI).

What are the requirements for the operating environment?

The mobilecrane is designed for indoor use and for an ambient temperature of -10°C to +40°C. The floor load-bearing capacity of the installation site (check in accordance with DIN 15019) must cover the entire footprint of the foundation column.

The mobilecrane is intended exclusively for lifting loads. The maximum load specified on the load plates (includes the load to be lifted as well as the lifting accessories or lifting equipment) must not be exceeded.

The mobilecrane must be aligned at the installation site using square metal plates with an edge distance of >100mm. The maximum inclination may be 0.5%. Only then can the correctly adjusted belt brake prevent load movement.

How is the installation and commissioning carried out?

The crane is delivered to the customer pre-assembled in modules (electrically and mechanically pre-assembled modules). This enables very fast installation on site. Depending on the version, a forklift (load capacity>3.5t) or overhead crane (load capacity>3.5t) must be available for unloading.

Assembly or installation is usually carried out by in-house maintenance (mechanical/electrical) or by a service provider. The supplied installation instructions provide a detailed description.

Commissioning is carried out by a crane expert commissioned by the operating company. The operator of the crane system is responsible for complying with and observing all applicable regulations and guidelines.

How is the spare parts supply organized?

We offer spare parts availability of >10-15 years after delivery. This ensures that your workshop crane can be optimally maintained and serviced over its entire service life.

What maintenance is required?

The cranes are very low-maintenance. Unlike our competitors, we have an internal guide for the trolley. This ensures that the rollers are also very well protected from dirt and dust. The carriage runs smoothly thanks to the ball bearings and requires only minimal maintenance.

Regular visual inspections and the inspection intervals prescribed by law should be observed. The cranes have a very long service life and can be operated until they no longer pass the statutory inspection.
