Mobile load-handling solutions for your workshop

Modern workshops require flexible solutions for load handling. The mobile workshop crane (known as “Mobile Crane” in the KA Cranes product range) offers exactly that: A powerful lifting tool without fixed foundations that can be used anywhere in your workshop. As an auxiliary crane for production, assembly, and tool changes, our Mobile Crane creates free crane capacity everywhere – with a flexibility that conventional systems cannot offer.

Originally developed in the 1980s, our workshop cranes have been continuously refined and adapted to changing customer requirements. The result? A well-engineered system with internal trolley guidance that runs extremely smoothly and is resistant to workshop dirt.

How to find the right workshop crane for your needs

Which loads need to be moved?

Choosing the right load capacity is crucial for the efficient use of your workshop crane. Our various models cover a wide range of applications:

  • Light loads (100-250 kg): Ideal for smaller tools, components and lighter assemblies in automotive workshops and assembly engineering.
  • Medium loads (250-500 kg): Perfect for handling heavier tools, machine parts and typical components in mechanical engineering.
  • Heavy loads (500-1000 kg): For demanding applications in heavy industry where larger components need to be moved.

Tip: Always plan with reserves in load capacity. Choose a workshop crane that can carry at least 10-15% more than your heaviest regular load.

Which working area needs to be covered?

The right outreach and the appropriate slewing range ensure that you can reach all key work areas in your workshop:

  • Outreach: Depending on the model, we offer outreaches from 1750 mm to 4715 mm. The maximum outreach directly affects the possible load capacity.
  • Slewing range: From the WK I with 270° to the WK III with a full 360° slewing range – choose the model that meets your space requirements.
  • Working height: The overall height can be flexibly adjusted to your individual requirements in 100 mm increments (from 2250 mm to 4500 mm).

What level of mobility is required?

A key advantage of our workshop cranes is their unique mobility. Depending on how often the location changes, various options are available:

  • Without travel gear: Transport with a forklift truck or overhead crane for occasional location changes.
  • Mechanical travel gear: With removable drawbar for simple and cost-effective mobility.
  • Hydraulic travel gear: For more frequent location changes and particularly comfortable manoeuvring, even in confined workshop areas.

The advantages of our workshop crane at a glance

No foundation work required

Unlike permanently anchored column slewing cranes, the mobile workshop crane does not require complex foundation work. Ideal for underfloor heating, rental properties, or when no interventions in the building structure are possible.

Maximum flexibility for changing requirements

Move away from rigid production layouts – the mobile workshop crane adapts to your needs. When layouts change or locations vary, the crane can simply move with you, without requiring new investments.

Internal trolley guide

Thanks to the well-engineered design with an internally guided trolley, our workshop cranes run extremely smoothly and are resistant to dirt – a decisive advantage over conventional external beam guidance.

Further advantages at a glance:

  • Ready for operation immediately after delivery – no waiting times
  • Proven in practice since the 1980s and continuously improved
  • Customisable load-handling attachments for your specific applications
  • Straightforward operation without special qualifications
  • Extremely smooth-running thanks to ball-bearing technology
  • Delivered pre-wired and ready to connect
  • Low maintenance thanks to robust design
  • Fast delivery compared to fixed variants

Frequently asked questions about the workshop crane

What distinguishes a Mobile Crane from other crane solutions?

Mobile Cranes offer flexible movement/positioning and thus cover significantly larger operating areas. The Mobile Crane itself is a Pillar Jib Crane, but without a fixed connection to the floor/hall/building.

Thus, it meets the requirements of a Pillar Jib Crane combined with the advantage of location independence without static influence (no anchor connection/hall statics). Only the floor load capacity must be considered.

Another advantage: With flexible location changes, one crane covers multiple applications – resulting in a faster return on investment (ROI).

What are the requirements for the operating environment?

The Mobile Crane is designed for indoor operation and for an ambient temperature of -10°C to +40°C. The floor load capacity of the installation site (verification according to DIN 15019) must cover the entire base area of the foundation column.

The Mobile Crane is intended exclusively for lifting loads. The maximum load specified on the load capacity plates (including the load to be lifted as well as load handling equipment or lifting devices) must not be exceeded.

The Mobile Crane must be aligned at the installation site using square metal plates with an edge length of >100 mm. The maximum inclination must not exceed 0.5%. Only then can the correctly adjusted band brake prevent load movement.

How are installation and commissioning carried out?

The crane is delivered to the customer in pre-assembled modules (electrically and mechanically pre-assembled modules). This enables very fast installation on site. For unloading, depending on the version, a forklift (load capacity>3.5 t) or an overhead crane (load capacity>3.5 t) must be available.

Assembly or installation is usually carried out by in-house maintenance (mechanical/electrical) or by a service provider. The supplied assembly instructions provide a detailed description.

Commissioning is carried out by a crane expert appointed by the operating company. The operator of the crane system is responsible for complying with and observing all applicable regulations and guidelines.

How is the spare parts supply organized?

We offer spare parts availability for >10-15 years after delivery. This ensures that your workshop crane can be optimally maintained and serviced throughout its entire service life.

What maintenance is required?

The cranes require very little maintenance. Compared to our competitors, we use internal guidance for the trolley. This ensures that the running rollers are very well protected from dirt and dust. The trolley runs smoothly thanks to ball bearings and requires only minimal maintenance.

Regular visual inspections and the inspection intervals prescribed by law should be observed. The cranes have a very long service life and can be operated until they no longer pass the statutory inspection.
